Manufacturing
Process Design (MPD) focuses on the development or improvement of the manufacturing
elements: equipment, processes, operations, and work cells. We accomplish this in two
ways:
1. Design of the molding process
2. Design of the work cell
The modern injection molding machine is able to control a vast array of parameters, e.g.,
pressures, speeds, temperatures, positions, timing of events, and sensing of events. The
design of the process to utilize these capabilities should result in a very cost effective
outcome. Without good design, however, costs are increased, materials are wasted, and part
quality can be compromised.
Once a good part is molded, finishing the work may be as simple as packaging the part or
as complicated as a set of value added operations to further manufacture, assemble,
decorate, and label. The work cell design, including custom fixtures, is critical to a
cost effective result.
